Cable 1 is two conductors that disappear inside the motor. Dc motor swap in south bend 16 lathe, pressurized bearings. But a 1/2 HP variable speed motor is too small for a 12' lathe, whatever the nominal speed. The motor has two cables coming out of it. Some DC motors run at nominal or nameplate speeds different from most single phase AC motors, requiring different pulleys. Ive got a 1950s era Craftsman 1/2 horse reversible motor on the back of an Atlas/Craftsman 12-inch lathe.
High performance 1/3 HP (300 Watt) DC motor OK, so its an electrical question, but its a lathe motor so I guess Im only slightly off topic.
